BLACK UNITED FUND OF OREGON INC
Mission Statement
The mission of the Black United Fund of Oregon (BUF) is to assist in the social and economic development of Oregon's underserved communities and to contribute to a broader understanding of ethnic and culturally diverse groups. For almost four decades, the BUF has been focused on positively impacting BIPOC communities through equitable social, economic, and educational opportunities. BUF was founded by social justice activists who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of people from communities of color in response to the systemic economic and social barriers they continue to experience today. Primary activities: • Culturally congruent one-on-one postsecondary mentorship. • Culturally specific workshops and professional development for BIPOC youth and young professionals. • Postsecondary scholarships for students of color, including ACCESS scholarships to local Oregon schools. • Community justice and equity initiatives ranging from support for small businesses to voter education. • Support for grassroots and BIPOC-led nonprofits via sponsorship, fiscal sponsorship, workplace giving, and grants (all of these activities are supported by individual donations and other funding supports). As one of the longest-standing, Black-led and focused community organizations in Oregon, Black United Fund of Oregon (BUF) has spent the last 39 years uplifting (B)IPOC and other marginalized communities with life-changing programs and other support.
