Mission Statement

We are dedicated to improving the health of women through education on the warning signs of ovarian cancer, support of those diagnosed with the disease and promotion of ovarian cancer research. Support We provide “Bags of Hope” to newly diagnosed patients. Each black canvas bag is packed with a number of items for the woman undergoing chemotherapy and is delivered by an ovarian cancer survivor who offers a word of encouragement and an introduction to SCOCF. Survivor groups in the Upstate and Charleston areas are invited to monthly “Lunch Bunch” support group meetings at local restaurants or other meeting places. SCOCF pays for the cost of the lunches and an annual holiday lunch or dinner for each group. Education Throughout the year, we create media campaigns, conduct speaking engagements for employee and women’s groups, and participate in women’s conferences, health fairs and other events throughout the state to improve awareness about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Our motto is “Until there is a test, awareness is best!” September is ovarian cancer awareness month. During the month, we will carry out an awareness campaign called “Turn the Towns Teal” throughout the state. Women will decorate city squares in teal ribbons, turn public fountain waters teal (with permission, of course), hold press conferences and get media coverage to kick off the month. Research The future of treatment and early detection lies in the area of research. The SCOCF wants to be able to support clinical and basic science research to help detect and more effectively treat ovarian cancer. We believe that with a statewide effort, more can be done to better treat, support and even potentially prevent this often times devastating malignancy.
