Mission Statement
Behind the Badge Charities is a volunteer organization that provides emergency financial assistance grants to police officers, firefighters, paramedics and emergency dispatchers working in governmental or volunteer emergency services organizations within Fort Bend County who suffer injuries, illness or other disasters that create financial hardship not covered by insurance or other assistance. Our core mission has two components: Benevolence. We provide financial support to Fort Bend County first responders in time of family tragedy or crisis. The "10-33" Officer Assistance Fund provides need-based grants to individual public safety officers who have suffered injury, serious illness, or other disaster that traditional insurance or other assistance has not covered. Scholarships. The Behind the Badge Charities provides academic scholarships to the children or dependents of qualified public safety officers. Individual scholarships are dedicated to the memory of officers killed in the line of duty. To be eligible for scholarship consideration, applicant must be a graduating high school senior or current college student whose parent or legal guardian is a current or honorably retired peace officer, reserve peace officer, correctional officer, probation officer, emergency medical technician/paramedic, firefighter, or 9-1-1 dispatcher serving with a governmental or volunteer emergency response agency within Fort Bend County, Texas. Past scholarship recipients are also eligible to reapply the scholarship for up to four years while meeting all other eligibility criteria.
