Mission Statement

This mission of A Place at the Table, Inc. is to combat childhood hunger by supplying weekend backpacks of food to school-aged children. The Food for Thought Weekend Backpack Program is designed to bridge the gap during the school year for students who may experience food insecurity from the time they leave school on Fridays (or the last school day of the week) until they return to school on Monday. During the school week, hungry students can at least count on having two complete meals per day if they are participating in the free/reduced breakfast and lunch programs that are available through their school. However, a subset of those students will leave school at the end of the week without knowing whether they will receive a full meal over the weekend. The Food for Thought Weekend Backpack Program is an important link in the chain to battle food insecurity and hunger by providing nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods to hungry students over the weekends so that they can return to school each week well-fed and ready to learn.
