Mission Statement

The Barnard PTA strives to support and advocate for our children and to enhance the value of their Mandarin immersion education. We aim to create a wholesome, positive, and engaging learning environment so students can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Through partnerships with administration, faculty, and families, the PTA enables our students to develop kindness and empathy with greater cultural understanding and global awareness. Together we will: o Provide support for cultural and educational programs at Barnard Elementary School; o Promote social activities that heighten school spirit, encourage family togetherness, and make a positive impact within our community; o Encourage and organize volunteer support for our school, PTA, and community events; o Increase interest, involvement, and understanding of our PTA; build awareness about the critical role of the PTA in helping students reach their full potential; o Conduct purposeful fundraising to support programs and events at Barnard Elementary School; o Collaborate with San Diego Unified School District and Mission Bay Cluster partners to support an effective and progressive path for our Mandarin immersion program that begins in kindergarten and continues through 12th grade. There are currently 430 student at the school. Because we are a magnet school, families drive their children from all over the county to participate in the Chinese Immersion program that goes through High School in our district. It is a very unique pilot program that has had tremendous success.
