FRIENDS OF HAGERMAN NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE FOUNDATION

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge (HNWR), located in Sherman, Texas, established in 1946 to provide and manage habitat for migratory birds, wildlife, and plants native to this area, and to provide opportunity for outdoor recreation that is compatible. The refuge offers educational programs and wildlife-dependent recreational opportunities, including wildlife observation and photography, fishing, hunting, and hiking. The HNWR Foundation (Friends of Hagerman) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to support environmental education, recreational activities, natural experiences, and other programs of the refuge. Volunteers participate in several citizen science projects, and we also sponsor nature/science education that is free and open to the community through two programs: Second Saturdays and Refuge Rocks. Second Saturdays are held the second Saturday of each month and focus on topics of interest to the general community; Refuge Rocks, held the third Saturday of each month, focuses on educational programs for children ages 4 – 10. In addition, volunteers assist refuge staff with field trips for local school children throughout the school year.
