VERMONT YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS INC

The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC) is a statewide, year-round, nonprofit conservation and education organization with a mission to teach individuals to take personal responsibility for all their actions. Since our founding in 1985, the VYCC has served more than 5,500 young people from every county and nearly every town in Vermont. Today, the VYCC is Vermont’s leading environmental and educational organization that provides inspiring and rewarding work opportunities for young people. We accomplish our mission by forming small teams of young people to work with highly-trained adult leaders and to complete meaningful work in communities throughout the state. Our participating youth cultivate an appreciation for, and understanding of, conservation work. They gain technical skills related to their assigned projects, learning to use tools safely, clean and maintain them, and use safety equipment and follow protocol. They learn to trust and communicate effectively with team members. And, they learn to take responsibility for arriving on time, being appropriately dressed for the job, having safety gear, using appropriate language, maintaining a positive attitude, and following directions. Well known for its high-quality work and education programs, VYCC projects have a lasting impact on public land in ways that benefit Vermonters for years to come.
